A Blank Page Is A Wonderful Thing

I’ve always enjoyed writing ever since English class at Bathgate Academy in my hometown in Scotland. I loved how honest Mrs Watson was with me. She couldn’t praise my review of Anthony Burgess’ A Clockwork Orange enough yet advised to to stick to short stories (HERE and HERE) and experiment with poetry.

I used to hate poetry but now I understand it, I love the freestyle type best suited to my personality. Writing a book is simply a no go area. I’ve tried longer stories but end up bored and lost all direction. I’m like what am I writing about again?

If I get the old ideas block I don’t get in a flap anymore. It’s healthy and natural for the brain to want to rest itself from composition. Netflix and chocolate instead of block editing and featured images. A break to enjoy other activities and WordPress is always here.

Writing this I’ve realised I’ve written something inspired by the above picture I saw on Instagram.

Let inspiration find you and live your life. Without filters!!

  1. Dust off all your poems and put them together in a book/s! Your words want to go out into the world and have a life of their own!!! I always find that the best way for me to face a blank page, when i’m having difficulty getting the word flow started is to write an Elfchen or two. It’s a way for me to get rid of that dreaded “writer’s blog”.

Here is a great post on Elfchen and what they are – mine is fifth from the end.
